I loved every word of this, Cait. Thank you so much for articulating all of this so well. As someone who continues to struggle with people-pleasing, the growth and change I've experienced in the last decade or so is something I continue to keep a little quiet, as to not upset some people. Yet, it's nothing to be ashamed of. It's actually something I'm quite proud of.

It’s such a complex road because of course you want to share the things you’re discovering about yourself and how you’re shifting your relationship to the world around you but in that, also realizing that it’s almost sacred ground you’re walking now and it would be so easy to slip on a land mine of good intentions and “just this once”s. But as lonely as it can feel at times in the middle, you should absolutely be damn proud. Find a good hot girl song and celebrate. (This is what I do anyway lol)

I love this - it's great! They say you're the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with, if you look around and those aren't the people you want to be then you need to keep moving. I heard a good one for this recently which is if you're finding it hard to cut people for this exact reason, just picture life like a minivan and your friends are riding with you. You don't have to kick them out the minivan, just shift them a few rows back, they're no longer front seat passengers, but you can still keep them in your life with a bit more distance.

Great read, thanks!

I don't know why I didn't see this til now! Thank you Rhys! And I couldn't agree more, I actually have a similar analogy about fear. When we're out there doing the brave thing, it's always going to come for the ride BUT it doesn't get to choose the music or give directions, and it MUST sit in the backseat.
