Cait, this is so beautifully laid out, and honestly, one of the clearest unpackings of what grace isn’t that I’ve read in a long time.

That distinction, between grace and transaction, love that. Especially the line: “That’s punishment with a different name.” You cracked open something that feels stitched into the way so many of us have learned to navigate both guilt and growth. And I love how you don’t swing to the extremes, grace isn’t forgetfulness or pretending it didn’t matter. It’s simply choosing not to stay stuck.

The pacing of this is stunning, too. You build each idea like it’s quietly asking for the reader’s permission to be true. And by the end, it just is.

Thank you for this. It’s one I’ll be rereading.

love this article and this line summarises it all for me - Grace isn't the absence of accountability - it's the presence of possibility. It weighs a lot for both sides as accountability to the one giving grace and the one receiving. The courage it takes for the giver to extend this and the responsibility the receiver has not to abuse this. Thanks for sharing this.
