How grace gets confused with a lot of things.
We like to package grace, forgiveness, and access together like they’re a three-for-one deal.
Like offering grace means someone has to be let back in.
Like forgiving means you have to pretend it never happened.
Like moving forward means picking up where you left off.
But these are not the same things.
And if you don’t untangle them, you’ll keep getting caught in the same emotional loop—either holding on too tightly to what’s already gone, or reopening a door that should have stayed closed.
So let’s be clear about what grace is not.
We tend to confuse grace with…
🚫 Grace is not forgiveness.
You can hold grace for someone without forcing yourself to forgive them.
You can believe in their capacity to grow and change without erasing what they did.
Grace is like watching someone trip over their own feet and deciding not to laugh, but also not catching them.
You don’t have to hold onto resentment, but you also don’t have to be the one to break their fall.
