Forever the little girl asking, “Why?”
Because why instigates.
Why threatens.
Why takes a rare kind of person to hear it and stay curious—to walk with me anyway.
“You don’t always need to understand,” they say.
But what if I do?
What if understanding is the core of me?
What if it’s the part I love most—the part that comes from the best of me?
I’m the fierce question-asker.
Not to provoke.
Not to manipulate.
But because someone, somewhere, needs to know—not just the who, but the what and why in the space between.
The answer to why builds bridges.
It makes us better partners, parents, and friends.
When I ask, it’s because I genuinely want to hear your answer.
Not the rehearsed lines.
Not the filler meant to smooth over silence or satisfy convention.
We say we’re losing genuine connection, but how can we connect if we don’t bother to ask?
How can we really know anyone—even ourselves—if we never dig deeper than surface-level understanding?
Being the one who asks is lonely.
People wonder what I’m angling for. They hold themselves back, as if I’m mining them for profit, when all I want is to find the bridge where we can feel safe together on purpose.
It’s hard to be the question-asker.
People either lean in or pull away—but either way, their patience has a limit.
Still, I ask.
Because every question has the potential to unlock a door humanity forgot how to open.
I don’t want to be less.
When I have a question, I want the freedom—and the safety—to ask it.
Because asking is my way of finding meaning.
Of finding you.
Of finding me.
